A/B testing | Weboptim
What is an A/B test, also known as a split test?
The A/B test is a very effective way to find out which version of your website is the most popular with your visitors, and which one is the most effective.
You can test many things, but simultaneously just one thing!
The idea of the experiment is to compare, so we will offer several variants and see which one proves to be the most effective. We can change the colour, layout, text, size of buttons, images, even the shape of the website. However, it is very important not to mix what you want to test. For example, if you want to see whether people click on the green or yellow button, don't mix it with your round-square test. If our visitors were more attracted to the yellow button, only THEN see if the round yellow or the rectangular one brings more people.
Comparing something does not mean that only two versions of it can be made, in fact! The more versions you make, the easier it is to find the right one. Take the colour of a website, for example. If someone can only choose between an orange and a blue website, but they don't like either, they'll choose the "less bad" one, but if we offer them a red or black version that looks good with the button we just tested, we get a more nuanced picture.
Why is this necessary?
On the one hand, if a site has no visitors, it is not worth much, and on the other hand, because the goal is to sell, which is unthinkable on the Internet without a good website. So it is worthwhile to carry out experiments at certain intervals to see whether we are effectively present on the web. But more importantly, it is worth looking at how we can take the business even further.
The main advantage of the method is its speed, as the changes brought by the test have a view-generating effect, which can lead to business success.
Although the above description was about websites, you can use A/B testing not only to test your website. It can also be used for emails. Here, the main focus should be on the font, the text and the layout of any images or logos.
Briefly about the test:
- We need the versions to test, so let's make them as a first step.
- With the help of Google, these versions are displayed in turn when visitors search for the page. This allows you to measure effectiveness. Google pages on the http://google.com/websiteoptimizer you can register on.
- On the page mentioned above, select the A/B test menu item, where you can start the test after entering the requested data.
- Let's evaluate the results!
