A Snapchat was founded in 2010 in Los Angeles. It was started by 3 university students, with the aim of bringing the ability to communicate to a higher level.be raised to the level of. To capture every moment and share it with friends, but just for a few seconds. That's probably why it's become so popular.
Snapchat is a messaging service where users can send photos, videos or even texts to each other. A special feature is that you can specify how long the image can be visible to the recipient before sending. After this time, all photos are deleted.
Snapchat is free to download for both Android and iOS. The app is only available on mobile phones, or more specifically smartphones.
The download is followed by a quick registration process, which requires only an email address and a password. You can also enter a unique snap name here, so that your friends can find you later.
There are several ways to find your friends. If you know their username, it's easy to just type it in and click 'add friend'. If you don't know the username, you can choose from the following options:
As you can see, it is also possible to synchronise your contacts.
Who uses it?
The number of users continues to grow, with an average of 166 million daily users in the first quarter of 2017.

The number of European users is estimated at 55 million, with most still in the US.
Some statistics:
- users 71%-under 34 years of age
- 45% users aged 18-24
- about 70% of users are women
- used by over 25% of UK smartphone owners
- In Norway the previous value is around 50%
- about 1 million new snaps are born every day
- more than 400 million Snapchat stories are created every day
- more than 200 thousand photos are shared every second
Snapchat is clearly a popular social networking app among young people. It's not surprising, as they use the app to share how they're feeling, even at school.
How to use it?
At the bottom centre of the screen is the camera button (always visible in whichever window you're in). Click and hold to take a picture, hold and hold to take a video. If you drag the screen to the side, you can choose from a variety of filters or even write text on it. Then, on the right, you can choose how many seconds the image should be available.
If you see a face in the camera and long-press on the face on the screen, a small menu pops up with a choice of funny faces and effects. Some of these change daily, some are permanent. There are also some effects that you have to buy separately.
Since an earlier update, you can now not only send photos taken in the app, but also upload them from your phone's photo gallery. Of course, if the other party takes a screenshot of the picture you've sent, you'll be notified.
Snapchat stories
As well as sending a message to your friends, you can also use Snapchat's story feature. Our story can be seen by all our friends, available 24 hours a day, and viewed multiple times during that time. When the 24 hours are up, it will be automatically deleted.
Why do we use this feature?
The idea was to allow users to tell stories about their day. In other words, we can find out what interesting things our friends have done in the last 24 hours.
People who have a lot of followers can easily take advantage of this feature. Many celebrities and brands share their Snapchat names publicly so that all users can see their stories.
It does not indicate to others how many followers a user has, nor how many people have viewed each snap, and posts can only be responded to by message.
The story feature was first adopted by Instagram, then Messenger and Facebook. You could say they've copied it, because there's not much difference - you can add text to your photos, use different filters and emoticons.
Snapchat as a marketing tool
The Snapchat app has a Discover which is a collection of mainly video content. Big media companies, such as CNN, use this facility, probably in exchange for serious money.
In Hungary, the possibilities are still more limited.
Mark Zuckerberg has made several attempts to buy Snapchat, but the company has always rebuffed them.
Why would he want to buy it?
Perhaps this is because, as we wrote earlier, 45% of Snapchat users are aged 18-24, while the 25-34 age group is 26%, for a total of 71%. The same age group is only 38% of Facebook users. So the young target group would be well within reach here.
This is probably why story options have been introduced on other Facebook-dominated social platforms. Instagram Stories was launched in August 2016, and Messenger Day has been available since 2017. And shortly after, Facebook Stories was added to the Facebook app. Even the Whatsapp app, which is also a "family member", now had such a feature.
So with Snapchat, you can send almost any picture, and if the recipient doesn't take a quick screenshot of it, they'll never see it again.
