What's new in Google Adwords | Weboptim
November 2014
In November, Google Adwords introduced a number of new features that will be rolled out gradually to all accounts.
What's new?
1. Individual interest segments
When advertising on the Google Display network, we can target users according to their interests, i.e. what kind of websites they visit often, or that what topics they are looking for.
Since the beginning of November, the public as a segment defined by us can also be defined - at URL or keyword level.
One drawback is that not yet available in Hungarian, but it can be used for campaigns abroad, especially for branding.
2. Targeting rate
A new element of flexible bidding strategies. This feature allows you to specify how many times you want your ad to be over a competitor's ad (higher position) to be published.
The most important thing to know is that only one competitor within a strategy can be selected as a benchmark. But we can also create several separate strategies and thus identify several competitors. If the other advertiser also uses this function, the maximum bid value will be decisive.
In many ways similar to have been present in Adwords for a longer period of time for auction statistics, but the important difference is that while there the system only counts the ads if both (our own and the competitor's ad) are published, in this case the system counts the ads even if only our ad is published and not the competitor's.
3. Advertisements showing multiple site extensions
A Google Search and the Google Map function that works for. In essence, you can publish several of the relevant sites as site extensions.
For example, if you have a restaurant chain that has several locations in Budapest, you can add all of them to the ad, so the user can choose from several addresses.
In total we may have 2 or 3 of these types of extensions, but the sites without phone numbers will not appear. Also, if we use a call extension in the campaign, this feature will not be available. But the good news is that working with our partners.
If you turn on location tracking on your mobile device, you can even see distances.
4. Mute Trueview ads
You can remove Youtube ads on Adwords with a single click - but this is only for Youtube search results pages applies to visible advertising.
For desktop devices and in-display ads only.
Muting is done at the video ID level and is for the lifetime of the cookie, so if you remove the cookies, the settings are lost.
It's important to note that, regardless of this, there is no fear of losing visitors - around 1% of users only use this feature.
5. More reports on flexible bidding strategies
In the report generated by Adwords, a new tab has been added, 'strategy status' column. This column shows the rating for our strategy, which currently has 5 possible ratings. We should aim to get the best possible rating from the system.
These would be the most important news for this month. Keep an eye on them to make your Adwords campaigns even more effective.
